Step through a “virtual climb” to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, with hundreds of Winnipeggers.

It’s time to dig out those running shoes and make plans to climb a mountain for Aboriginal youth - right here in Winnipeg!

Walking just 10,000 steps per day, as recommended by Winnipeg in Motion, you will have climbed the needed 38,860 steps to be on top of Mount Kilimanjaro in under a week!

How easy is that? Run, walk, or climb stairs it all adds up. Calculate your steps by using your FREE PEDOMETER, courtesy of Boeing Winnipeg & ONE WEEK MEMBERSHIP to any YMCA/YWCA location in Winnipeg to complete the journey!

And the best part is that all pledges collected will help create positive opportunities for Aboriginal youth through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winnipeg’s

“Find Your Dream Fund”.

Climb a mountain…get a free pedometer and gym membership, support the positive development of Aboriginal youth – it doesn’t get much better than this!

Sound like something you and your friends, family or workplace could do? Then read on.

According to the folks at Winnipeg In Motion, completing 10,000 steps per day is recommended for active living. There are so many benefits to be obtained from regular physical activity. Not only will you look better and feel better about yourself, but you will also be contributing to the healthy development of Aboriginal youth in our community.

Now, for those of you shakin’ in your boots at the mere thought of walking to the fridge, take heart!

Ten thousand steps may sound like a lot, but keep in mind that most people cover about half that amount (4,000 to 6,000 steps) in their typical day. You probably only need to come up with another 4,000 to 6,000 steps in a day to reach 10,000. If you're walking at a brisk pace, that's about a 30 to 60 minute walk!

So here’s your chance to ‘get in motion’ and show your support for Aboriginal children and youth. Here’s how it works:

-          From April 11 - 21, start tracking your steps!Just 10,000 steps per day (for a total of 38,860 steps) will get you to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in under a week! Run, walk, or climb stairs! And don't forget to use your pedometer and one week membership at any YM/YWCA location in Winnipeg!

-          On April 21, join us for our private closing celebration at IMAX theatre. Turn in any additional pledges, record your steps, pick up your thank you bracelet and celebrate your commitment to Aboriginal youth in our community!

Time and again, we have seen the power we hold as a community when we come together in unity. We all know the challenges that our Aboriginal children and youth face, and we see the inherent potential that lies in each young life.  Climb for Kids – Kilimanjaro 2008 represents a tremendous opportunity to reclaim our responsibility to our children – be it as mentors, role models and friends, or through donations that help to create the kinds of opportunities our kids need and deserve.

Let’s get in motion and empower our children today!
