United Way of Winnipeg is at work in every corner of our city, creating opportunities for a better life for everyone. Each and every day, United Way has a profound impact on all our lives.
When you support United Way, you're supporting programs and strategies that offer young people an alternative to the streets, help families achieve financial independence, and improve neighbourhood health and personal well-being. Together, we are building a stronger, safer, healthier Winnipeg for everyone who lives here.
United Way ensures an essential network of programs and services by providing support to nearly 100 agency partners. Each plays a vital role in their overall strategy to ensure lasting, positive change by addressing the underlying causes of our city's most challenging social issues.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winnipeg is just one of these agencies. United Way has been a funder for our mentorship programs for many years. Providing us with a consistent and reliable source of funding that allows us to continue torecruit, match and support the over 663 kids that we serve. But beyond that, they have developed a partnership with our agency that has provided support though the Day of Caring program, ticket donations for our matches and organization support when needed.
They believe that kids should be all they can be! The United Way is working to give kids in Winnipeg alternatives to crime, drugs and life on the streets. They know that to succeed in school and in life, children need role models and the skills to help them graduate and achieve their potential. They know the importance of mentorship. That these relationships nurture self-esteem, confidence, positive behaviour and a sense of belonging so kids can grow into engaged and productive adults.
Last year, United Way achieved their goal of $18.8 million dollars raised. Not ones to sit back and accept the status quo, they have raised the bar once again and their 2011 Campaign goal is over $19.2 million dollars. With the support of Winnipeg behind them, we know they can reach it!
