Empowering Justice - Big Bunch: This is an exciting option for volunteers who are interested in helping to address some of our community auto theft issues, by connecting with youth who are in the early stages of involvement. This program is pro-social, positive, and has aims of truly reaching out to help these youth learn to spend their time positively and productively. By reaching out to them and giving them relationships, as well as activities, we can be part of solution to this issue.

Empowering Justice is a Manitoba Justice program to help kids get out of the Auto Theft culture. Youth 12-17 will be referred to us through the justice system for recreational and Aboriginal cultural programming. Volunteers who have an interest in working to help youth break the cycle of criminal behavior, but who may not be ready or interested in a one to one relationship in the community such as Ototema II, may be interested in this new site based, group mentoring program.

Volunteers will be matched with a group of volunteers and youth (maximum one volunteer to three youth.) The commitment is only a few hours every two weeks, for a year. Activities will be supervised, structured and lots of fun.

VOLUNTEERS:

  • Share fun and friendship
  • Are kind, caring men and women who come from all walks of life
  • Have a few hours each week to share

ACTIVITIES:

  • Pool
  • Fooseball
  • Ping Pong
  • Nintendo Wii
  • Movies
  • Music
  • Arts

There will also be a strong Aboriginal component to the program for youth who want to participate in, and learn more about Aboriginal culture. Interested volunteers  from all walks of life who are interested in supporting their youth in learning more, will be able to experience sweats, feasting, storytelling, and much more!
