You have what it takes to become a part of something Big!  Our volunteers come from all walks of life but have the common goal of wanting to help a child.  It’s easy to get involved…you don’t have to change your life, you just have to make a bit of room fo a new friend. We are always in need of mentors for all of our programs!

For over thirty years, Big Brothers and Big Sisters has been making a difference in the lives of young people by providing an adult friend where one is needed. Children who have been in our program see real and positive change. By offering high quality one-to-one and group mentoring programs for youth, we offer them a chance to develop into a confident and caring adult.

Research has proven that the additional time and attention from an adult role model from outside a child’s family, has a tremendous impact on increasing a child’s ability to view the world positively and cope better with difficult situations. Simple acts like reading, laughing, and teaching are powerful. They have ability to transform the lives of youth.

Our volunteers are people just like you. Our programs vary in the amount of time that we require during the year – from once a month to a few hours a week, for people who have during the day, and others who may have time to spend evenings and weekends. Parents/Guardians!

Due to the number of successful matches being made and programs being started, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winnipeg is currently inviting applications of children in our community for a variety of programs. Currently, we are seeking applications particularly for potential Little Sisters within the City who may be in need of a one to one mentoring relationship. We still have more boys waiting than we do girls, and the waiting times are unfortunately longer for Little Brothers to get a one to one match. We are actively seeking male volunteers to address this.

However we are encouraging the application of both boys and girls specifically for the Big Bunch program. This is one of our newer programs and is suited for youth who could benefit from the time and attention of a group of mentors and other youth. Bunches are like have more than one Big Brother or Big Sister, and activities are consistent, interactive and fun. If your child is more interested in group mentoring than a one to one match, Big Bunch may be for them!
